Course Overview

CHC50113 – Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care reflects the role of early childhood educators who are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum in early childhood education and care services. In doing so they work to implement an approved learning framework within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard.

Entry Requirements

Successful completion of Australian Year 12 or Australian equivalent is mandatory. Students must be 18 years old and above.

Domestic RPL candidates:
Prior to commencing the RPL process, domestic RPL candidates are required to have relevant work experiences and/or any other evidence to match with the training package requirements.
English requirement:

A minimum of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent is required.

2CHCECE003 and CHCECE005 requires students to perform the activities outlined in the performance criteria during a period of at least 120 hours of work in at least one regulated education and care service. CHCECE017 requires students to perform the activities outlined in the performance criteria during a period of at least 240 hours of work in at least one regulated education and care service.

Vocational Placement

Vocational placement provides students with the opportunity to apply skills and knowledge in real scenarios. It is a requirement of this qualification that students undertake a minimum of 240 unpaid vocational placement hours. Reach Community College organises student placement. Students will be given a vocational placement logbook and diary which will need to be completed during their placement hours. Students must be willing to undertake placement in an early childcare facility and/or within a simulated childcare environment during the program. Should students be required to travel interstate for placement, Reach Community College will cover the cost of all interstate travel and accommodation during the placement, however students will be required to organise their own local travel to and from these facilities.

Students will be notified of their placement details by email, prior to commencing vocational placement. Students are required to organise their own travel to and from these facilities and may be required to undertake placement anywhere in Tasmania and within Australia.
Prior to attending vocational placement, students must demonstrate satisfactory course progression.

Before commencing vocational placement:
Students will be required to complete HLTAID004– Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting. This unit is a core unit within this qualification and will need to be completed prior to placement.

  • Provide an Australian Federal Police Certificate indicating that the student has passed the Australian Federal Police (National) Check.(www.afp.gov.au/what-we-do/services/criminal-records/national-police-checks)

VOCATIONAL PLACEMENT FEES
$500 – for each qualification in Community Services. Before commencing placement, students will be required to obtain mandatory documents at their own expense. Students will be notified of their placement via email, including when to obtain these documents, prior to commencing vocational placement.
